The Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies (CELAS) at Rice is pleased to offer funds for:

> Research projects related to Latin American and US Latino/a/e/x Studies (including for summer research in 2027!):

> Event funding related to Latin American and US Latino/a/e/x Studies in the academic year 2026/2027:

> Deadlines. We have two funding request deadlines throughout the year. Calls open one month before each deadline:

  • September 30, 2026 (for fall and spring semester)
  • January 30, 2027 (for the spring or summer semester)

Any Rice faculty, staff member, or graduate or undergraduate student conducting research or proposing an event in Latin American and Latine/x Studies may apply for funding. Requests are evaluated by the executive committee and awarded on a competitive basis.

We are particularly interested in research related to our four current research clusters (1. Representation and Democratic Resilience 2. Environment and Conflict 3. Arts and the Urban Sphere; 4. South-South Connections and Methodologies) and events or research that reflect the Center's transnational, multiracial and multilingual research agenda but will consider all research related to Latin America, US Latino/e communities, and latinidades across the world.

For submission, funding range, and deadlines, please see and follow the instructions on the respective forms (one for research funding, one for event funding).

> Speakers' suggestions CELAS organizes two lecture series, and here you can submit suggestions for possible speakers for either series.

1. New Directions in Latin American and Latinx Studies Lecture Series (for emergent or established scholars and artists whose research breaks new ground and exciting new pathways for thinking about Latin America and Latinos globally)

2. Distinguished Lecture Series in Latin American and Latinx Studies  (for senior scholars, intellectuals, and artists who have made major contributions to Latin American and Latinx Studies)

Please submit or link a short bio and explain in a few sentences why you suggest we invite the person.
